About
The 2025 growing season will require growers to balance tight budgets with effective crop nutrient management. Join our panel of experts as they discuss ways to prioritize nutrients to maximize your ROI. We’ll share tips for measuring success in fertility programs, managing risk and adapting your fertility program to current conditions in-season.
Fast Facts
1. Don’t forget about the reproductive stage.
Temple Rhodes, an XtremeAg grower from Maryland, says he’s front-loading fewer acres in favor of in-season foliar applications in the reproductive stage.
“Between 60 and 70% of your phosphorus is needed to facilitate reproduction,” he explains. “Applying all of it before we even plant the crop risks not having it available when the crop needs it. The fertility never really changes. I’m just reallocating it.”

2. Learn from what you missed.
Just as Rhodes does, Ryan Zelinko, a Michigan grower relies on on-farm research to help him find new crop nutrition strategies that work. He chooses one field each year to try new approaches.

3. Nutrients are only as good as their ability to work together efficiently.
Reid Abbott, an agronomist for AgroLiquid, works with growers to build the best crop nutrition program for their budget. When reviewing soil tests, he encourages growers to take a holistic approach, incorporating primary, secondary and micronutrients.
“It’s not just the nutrients on the page, it’s the cumulative balance of them,” he says. “How they interact, what management strategies can be used to make them work better and the growing conditions that can impact their behavior.”
